Autism Association of WA 2026 Annual Report

President’s Report

In a year marked by significant change and uncertainty across the disability sector, the Autism Association remained focused on its commitment to supporting Autistic people and their families. We continued to deliver high-quality services while advocating for the needs, rights and inclusion of Autistic people and their families.

Amid widespread uncertainty, we remained focused throughout the year on strengthening our services and adapting to the changing environment. Despite ongoing workforce shortages in a number of areas, we continued to deliver high-quality services. We expanded our Employment, Community Living and Diagnostic services and increased our Out of Home Care program. We completed a number of infrastructure projects as part of our five-year plan to support service growth, alongside progressing the organisation’s digital transformation.

In addition, we worked with many community organisations creating opportunities to improve the lives of Autistic children and adults by enhancing inclusion at school, at work, and in the community. We were extremely pleased this year with the delivery of the very successful Asia Pacific Autism Conference. This three-day event in November 2025 brought together academics, medical professionals, researchers, educators and community leaders, as well as Autistic people and their families, to share research, innovations and

diverse lived experiences. Over 1,500 attendees from more than 30 countries came together in Perth, marking the largest Asia Pacific Autism Conference to date. Our progress over the past year was made possible through the support of our many stakeholders, community organisations and government partners, including the State Government through the Department of Communities. I would especially like to thank Lotterywest, whose contribution has made our new Therapy Hub for families in Joondalup possible.

I would like to extend my thanks to our Board for their ongoing leadership and commitment to advancing the Autism Association’s mission and purpose. I also acknowledge Chief Executive Officer, Joan McKenna Kerr AM, and all Association staff for their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of Autistic people and their families across Western Australia. Dr Rob Storer President and Chair of the Board
