Autism Association of WA 2020 Annual Report

WA Disability Support Awards

This year we had the pleasure of celebrating individual staff and teams being finalists and award winners across several categories at the 2020 WA Disability Service Awards. The Awards recognise innovation, excellence, and leadership in the field of disability.

We congratulate all our staff who were recognised in this year’s Disability Support Awards. It was wonderful to have so many nominations and it was such a privilege to have 3 finalists and an overall winner from a number of our services. In so many ways, however, these Awards are a tribute to people with Autism themselves and how they continue to teach us about the things that matter to them. Congratulations to: • The Autism in Cricket team for being announced as a joint winner of the Excellence in Innovation Award; • Jodie French for being named a finalist in Excellence in Supporting Social Inclusion category; • Stephen’s Place Team for being named a finalist in the Excellence in Home and Family Support Award; and • Team Becky Jackson for being named as finalists in the Excellence in Home and Family Support Award.

“Nobody enters into projects like this with an award in mind and those are the most meaningful and wonderful projects that come to fruition. This award is an incredible acknowledgment of the passion and dedication shown by all that have made this program possible..” – Adam Gilchrist "The great thing about the work we do is that we make ordinary things possible for people who want to achieve them. This is a great privilege and a great thrill. Thank you everybody and especially thank you to people with Autism for being our teachers; and to families for being our guides. These awards are yours." – Joan McKenna Kerr “I couldn’t be prouder of the amazing team we have, and this is only a small part of a million stories we could tell about the great things the people we support achieve every day” – Jean Taylor “I’ve always loved working here; it feels like family. I love the people I support and I value the opportunity I get every day to be part of their lives. I love this job and I wouldn’t change it for the world!” – Elle Papalia “I love my job. The people I support are awesome so it’s actually a really easy job!” – Jodie French
